inDrive Announces Plan to Offer Financial Services in Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, And Others, to Address Financial Challenges of Drivers
Global e-hailing platform operating across 47 countries, inDrive, has announced plans to offer financial and credit services, which include offering small loans, to drivers in developing markets where it operates.
The initiative aims to address the financial challenges commonly faced by drivers, particularly in regions such as Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Ghana, and Namibia, where drivers grapple with high expenses related to vehicle repairs and financial pressures.
The company, which operates in 47 countries, says the new development will help it achieve long-term financial stability for its growing driver base.
InDrive’s Group President, Mark Loughran, expressed the company’s commitment to developing financial services that cater to the specific needs of drivers in emerging countries. Alongside exploring diverse concepts, InDrive is actively seeking strategic collaborations to facilitate loans for drivers and delivery riders in need of financial support.
The e-hailing company, is not remiss to realise the difficulty of giving small loans to gig riders in these emerging markets, most of whom have no previous banking credibility. According to Loughran, inDrive anticipates the challenges and is exploring effective solutions to support its drivers.
InDrive has remarkably continued to roll out plans to cater for drivers in markets where it operates. In December 2023, the mobility and urban services platform, announced the opening of a new initiative in Morrocco, aimed at encouraging individuals with physical disabilities to join the platform as drivers.
In addition to providing financial and credit services, and directly benefiting drivers, inDrive’s inclusive attitude and readiness to offer chances to people with special needs has created a more varied and inclusive workplace.
