Safaricom Clarifies Technical Issue Affecting The Transmission of M-Pesa Transactions to Users

Kenyan mobile network operator Safaricom has clarified the technical hitch, that affected the transmission of M-Pesa transactions to users.

The company disclosed that the issue majorly affected users with Android phones who are using third-party SMS apps.

Safaricom said,

“We have noted that some of our customers are not receiving messages from Safaricom and/or M-PESA. This issue is affecting customers with Android phones who are using third-party SMS apps”.

In a notice on Friday, Safaricom said to resolve the issue, the affected customers should Open their SMS app and check the Spam & Blocked folder.

“Find a Safaricom and M-PESA message and unblock it. All subsequent messages will go to the main inbox. Additionally, customers using Android smartphones can select the default SMS app as it does not have a spam folder”, Safricom said.

Also, recall that M-Pesa last month announced the decision to streamline M-PESA money transfers, which will restrict the transfer of funds to unregistered M-Pesa users.

This implies that users will no longer be able to send funds to unregistered mobile money users on the Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom networks, a move by the telecom company to provide a more secure and convenient experience for everyone.

Previously, unregistered mobile money users would receive a voucher message via SMS that had to be redeemed at an M-PESA Agent within 7 days of receipt of the voucher. Unfortunately, this will no longer be the case.
