Andela Appoints Former Uber Executive Carrol Chang as New CEO

Andela, a global talent marketplace that connects companies with top-tier tech talent from around the world, has announced the appointment of Carrol Chang, the former Global Head of Driver and Courier Operations at Uber, as its new CEO.

Chang takes over the helm from Andela’s co-founder, Jeremy Johnson, who is stepping down from his role as CEO but will continue to serve on the company’s Board.

Effective September 17, 2024, Chang will take over as CEO of Andela, bringing with her extensive experience in scaling marketplace businesses through periods of rapid growth into mature, publicly traded companies. Chang’s expertise lies in leading teams through hypergrowth and transitioning companies from fast-growing startups to mature, publicly traded firms. Her experience in the tech industry, particularly in operations and marketplace dynamics, makes her well-suited to lead Andela as it continues to expand its influence in the global talent market.

Commenting on her appointment, Chang said,

“I am deeply grateful for the privilege to lead Andela. It’s rare to find a mission-driven company that also has the potential to create a category-defining business. I’m inspired by the way Jeremy has led Andela to this point, and I appreciate the trust he and the Board now put in me to carry forward its mission.

“The global talent market is an $8.5 trillion-dollar opportunity, and Andela has a decade of experience connecting brilliant talent with opportunity on a global scale. I look forward to writing the next great chapter with the Andela team.”

Chang’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Andela, as the company aims to capture a larger share of the global talent market. Originally launched with the mission of training African software developers for roles in U.S. and international companies, the company has since transformed into a global talent marketplace.

Andela’s evolution from an African startup to a global tech talent powerhouse underscores its adaptability and foresight in the ever-changing tech landscape.
