Flutterwave Expands Into Uganda With New Payment Systems Operator License
Flutterwave, a prominent payments technology company, has achieved a significant milestone by securing a Payment Systems Operator (PSO) license from the Bank of Uganda. This license paves the way for Flutterwave to further its expansion across Africa, with Uganda now joining its rapidly growing network of operational countries.
With the PSO license, Flutterwave will offer a suite of services that include payout solutions for disbursing funds such as salaries and commissions, invoicing tools for efficient payment tracking and collection, and mobile money integration to ensure convenient and accessible payment options for Ugandans. Additionally, the license will facilitate fund transfers and payment collections across various customer segments and locations within Uganda, empowering businesses with efficient, reliable, and customized payment solutions through platforms like Flutterwave for Business and SendApp.
Reflecting on this achievement, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Founder & CEO of Flutterwave, stated, “Securing this license in Uganda is a critical step toward realizing our vision of a financially interconnected Africa. At Flutterwave, we believe that Africa’s future lies in its ability to seamlessly connect its people, businesses, and economies through technology. We are thrilled to contribute to this journey, empowering Ugandan businesses and individuals to fully leverage the potential of digital payments and drive inclusive growth.”
Oluwabankole Falade, Chief Regulatory Officer at Flutterwave, added, “Acquiring this license strengthens our position as a leading payment technology service provider in Africa. We are committed to complying with all regulatory requirements and maintaining a strong relationship with the Bank of Uganda to ensure our services remain secure, reliable, and beneficial to the Ugandan population.”
This development in Uganda comes on the heels of Flutterwave’s recent acquisition of payment licenses in Ghana and Mozambique, marking another strategic step in its mission to deliver seamless and secure payment solutions across the African continent.
