PalmPay Expands Access With Launch of USSD Code For Offline Financial Transactions
PalmPay, a leading financial platform with over 30 million users in Nigeria, has announced the launch of its USSD code service, providing Nigerians with an additional way to manage their finances without needing internet access.
By dialing *861# from their mobile phones, customers can now perform a wide range of banking transactions, including money transfers and bill payments, ensuring greater financial accessibility in areas with limited or unstable internet connectivity.
PalmPay has been operating in Nigeria since 2019 under a Mobile Money Operator license issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The fintech company pioneered a comprehensive financial ‘superapp’ that offers services such as money transfers, credit, savings, and bill payments. For users without smartphones, PalmPay has built a nationwide network of over 500,000 Mobile Money Agents, enabling transactions through in-person services.
With the introduction of USSD, PalmPay aims to further extend its reach and improve convenience for consumers. This new feature is designed to address frequent data network outages in Nigeria, offering a reliable, offline option for customers.
Chika Nwosu, PalmPay’s Nigeria Managing Director, highlighted the company’s dedication to financial inclusion: “At PalmPay, we aim to bridge the gap in digital access, and the introduction of our USSD service aligns with that mission. Our platform ensures seamless connectivity for our users.”
Additionally, Nwosu noted the USSD platform’s built-in security feature, which allows users to remotely freeze their accounts if their phone is lost or stolen, providing an extra layer of protection for customer finances.
This move marks another significant step in PalmPay’s mission to make financial services more accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of their internet connectivity or access to smartphones.
