Mastercard And Amazon Partner to Boost Digital Payment Adoption Across Middle East And Africa
Mastercard, a global leader in payment technology, has entered into a multi-year commercial partnership with Amazon Payment Services to drive digital payment acceptance in nine countries across the Middle East and Africa. The countries include Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
As part of the agreement, Amazon Payment Services will integrate Mastercard Gateway, a unified platform for payment processing, across 40 markets in the region. This partnership aims to enhance the digital payments landscape as the adoption of emerging payment methods continues to grow. According to Mastercard’s Payment Industry Insights Index, 95% of consumers in the Middle East and Africa are open to using innovative payment methods like wearables, biometrics, digital wallets, QR codes, and contactless payments.
The collaboration will also introduce new payment solutions such as Secure Card on File, Click to Pay, and token authentication services, offering merchants advanced tools to improve payment security and speed up the checkout process. Mastercard Gateway will provide multi-rail options, allowing merchants to process payments through various networks, creating a faster and more convenient experience for customers.

Peter George, Managing Director of Amazon Payment Services for the Middle East & North Africa, highlighted the benefits of Mastercard Gateway, stating that the technology will empower Amazon Payment Services to expand its reach as a Payment Service Provider (PSP) and streamline the integration process with major acquirers globally.
