Stanbic IBTC Appoints Dr. Kunle Adedeji as Acting CEO Following Regulatory Approval

The Board of Directors of Stanbic IBTC Holdings has announced the appointment of Dr. Kunle Adedeji as the Acting Chief Executive Officer, following regulatory approval. The news was disclosed in a press release submitted to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on October 2, 2024, signed by the company secretary, Chidi Okezie.

Dr. Adedeji will assume the position in light of the upcoming retirement of Dr. Demola Sogunle, the current CEO, effective October 31, 2024. After an illustrious career of 35 years, Dr. Sogunle is stepping down, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional service and leadership. In the press release, the Board of Directors expressed its deep appreciation for his dedication, stating, “The Board expresses its heartfelt gratitude for his unwavering commitment, visionary leadership, and pivotal role in steering Stanbic IBTC through various challenges and milestones.”

Dr. Kunle Adedeji will officially take over as Chief Executive on November 1, 2024. The press release highlighted his extensive experience and proven leadership capabilities that make him a natural fit for the role.

Profile of Dr. Kunle Adedeji

Dr. Kunle Adedeji is a seasoned financial expert with over 25 years of experience in the banking sector. He brings a wealth of knowledge in financial management, institutional operations, and leadership.

Dr. Adedeji’s academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a finance specialization from the University of Lagos. He later earned a Doctorate in Business Administration from the SBS Swiss Business School in Switzerland.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, with professional affiliations extending to several esteemed organizations including the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute, the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria, the Nigeria Institute of Management, and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

Dr. Adedeji’s career includes key leadership roles at Ecobank, where he served as Financial Controller and later as Regional Financial Controller for Liberia and Nigeria. His tenure at Stanbic Ghana from May 2013 to March 2018 as Chief Financial Officer further solidified his expertise, where he was instrumental in shaping the financial strategies of the institution.
