UBA Partners with Mastercard to Launch 75th Anniversary Commemorative Debit Card

United Bank for Africa (UBA) PIc, Africa’s Global Bank, has partnered with Mastercard to introduce a commemorative debit card in celebration of UBA’s 75th anniversary.

The initiative aims to recognize BA’s enduring customer relationships while elevating the banking experience with exclusive offers and discounts across diverse platforms.

Speaking at the launch event, BA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, emphasized the value-packed benefits of the card. Among these are a limited 25% discount on purchases made through Jumia and a $75 cashback on transactions completed via AliExpress. Alawuba described the launch as a testament to the shared mission of UBA and Mastercard to empower Africans by fostering secure and convenient financial transactions.

“This new card represents the deepening of our relationship and our shared mission to empower millions of Nigerians and Africans by providing them with access to secure transactions and new opportunities across the continent,” Alawuba remarked.

He further revealed plans to roll out similar offerings across all UBA subsidiaries, underscoring the bank’s confidence in Mastercard’s growing role in Africa’s financial landscape.

Mark Elliott, Mastercard’s Division President for Africa, expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting its significance in bolstering Africa’s digital economy. “We are thrilled to partner with UBA to celebrate this milestone and deliver greater value to customers across Africa. This commemorative card is more than a product; it embodies our commitment to advancing financial inclusion and enabling Africans to access secure, impactful financial solutions,” he stated.

Mastercard’s dedication to fostering digital growth through innovative solutions tailored to the region’s evolving needs. 

The launch of the commemorative debit card marks a pivotal step in the journey of UBA and Mastercard toward financial empowerment and innovation across the African continent.
