Bamboo Secures U.S. Broker-Dealer License, Paving the Way for African Investors

Bamboo, a Nigerian-based fintech company that empowers Africans to invest in U.S. stocks, has achieved a historic milestone by acquiring a U.S. broker-dealer license through its affiliate, Bamboo Securities L.L.C. This achievement makes Bamboo the first financial organization from Nigeria to secure such a license, marking a transformative moment in the continent’s financial landscape.

Access to U.S. Markets for African Investors

The new license enables Bamboo to provide corporate clients, retail investors, and licensed brokers across Africa with seamless access to the U.S. stock market. The company announced on its social media platform X:
“Licensed brokers across Africa can now provide their clients access to the U.S. stock market. Corporate clients and retail customers can also enjoy seamless U.S. market access.”

This development positions Bamboo to collaborate with licensed broker-dealers across Africa, expanding its B2B offerings and enabling businesses to offer U.S. investment opportunities to their users.

Fueling Bamboo’s Mission

With this license, Bamboo Securities LLC gains the authority to offer access to U.S. securities for African investors. The company reiterated its mission of enabling investments from anywhere and in any way, stating:
“This license makes it even easier for Africans to invest in U.S. securities.”

In an email to its users, Bamboo expressed gratitude for their trust over the past five years, calling this milestone a massive win in its journey to empower Africans with access to global markets.

A Growing Platform for African Investors

Launched in January 2019 by CEO Richmond Bassey and COO Yanmo Omorogbe, Bamboo has revolutionized digital investing for Africans. The platform allows users to buy, hold, or sell U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and American depositary receipts (ADRs). It also offers access to equities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, giving users exposure to over 6,000 companies globally.

Bamboo’s impact extends across socioeconomic brackets, providing an inclusive avenue for Africans to invest in foreign stocks, build wealth, and earn foreign currency. With over 300,000 accounts, the platform continues to gain popularity among retail investors.
