Moniepoint Partners With Afrigopay to Launch Tap-to-Pay Solutions And Distribute 5 Million AfriGO Cards

Moniepoint Inc., a leading Nigerian fintech company, has announced a strategic partnership with Afrigopay Financial Services Limited (AFSL) to introduce tap-to-pay solutions and distribute 5 million AfriGO cards across Nigeria. This initiative is designed to accelerate the adoption of the National Domestic Card Scheme, AfriGO, while advancing Nigeria’s digital payment agenda and enhancing financial inclusion nationwide.
The collaboration leverages Moniepoint’s extensive fintech infrastructure and vast agent network to enable seamless, contactless transactions. Nigerians will be able to make payments by tapping their AfriGO cards or Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled devices on payment terminals or compatible mobile phones. This innovation will enhance convenience, security, and efficiency for both individuals and businesses.
Unlike international card schemes, AfriGO promotes data sovereignty and strengthens local businesses by keeping transactions within Nigeria’s ecosystem. Additionally, it reduces the country’s reliance on foreign exchange for payment processing.
As part of the initiative, Moniepoint will distribute 5 million AfriGO cards, ensuring that more Nigerians—especially SMEs and underserved communities—gain access to secure, affordable digital payments. The cards offer instant transaction settlement, improved cash flow management, and reduced operational risks, all backed by Moniepoint’s robust technology and liquidity solutions.
A Vision for the Future of Payments
Tosin Eniolorunda, Founder and CEO of Moniepoint Inc., emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating:
“Our collaboration with AfriGO aligns with our mission to engineer financial happiness for every Nigerian. By introducing contactless payments, we are driving convenience, transparency, and security in digital transactions.”
He further highlighted that the Moniepoint/AfriGO card is not just a product but a vital tool for expanding financial access, especially to those historically excluded from the formal banking system.
“The benefits of contactless payments will reshape the digital economy, empowering individuals, businesses, and governments to achieve their financial goals,” he added.
Ebehijie Momoh, Managing Director and CEO of Afrigopay Financial Services Ltd., a subsidiary of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), highlights the partnership’s transformative potential.
“This collaboration is set to revolutionise financial service delivery, particularly in underserved areas, by leveraging AfriGO’s innovative payment solutions. With AfriGO Cards, merchants and agents will experience seamless transaction finalisation and instant settlement, leading to improved efficiency and better cash flow management,” she said.
Momoh also underscored the critical role of Moniepoint’s agent network in expanding the reach of these services. Spanning urban and rural areas, the network will facilitate essential banking services such as purchases, deposits, withdrawals, and money transfers, bringing financial access closer to millions of Nigerians.
“Together, we are creating a more connected and inclusive financial ecosystem, making transactions faster, more reliable, and widely accessible,” she noted.
With this partnership, Moniepoint and AFSL are set to revolutionize Nigeria’s payment landscape, ensuring greater financial inclusion and positioning AfriGO as a key player in the country’s evolving digital economy.
