2 min read

Nigerian fintech firm Sycamore has appointed Oluwagbenga Magbagbeola, a seasoned investment expert, to lead its asset management division. This strategic move comes as the company secures a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) license, allowing it to operate as a fund and portfolio manager.

A Leader with Market Expertise

With 17 years of experience in capital markets, Magbagbeola has held key leadership positions at ARM Securities, FBNQuest Securities, and Profund Securities. At ARM Securities, he was instrumental in crafting investment strategies that outperformed market benchmarks, even amid Nigeria’s economic challenges, including currency fluctuations and inflationary pressures.

Excited about his new role, Magbagbeola highlighted the significance of merging fintech innovation with traditional asset management.
“Sycamore provides the perfect platform to blend technology with capital market expertise, offering Nigerians secure and diverse investment options, especially in times of economic uncertainty,” he stated.

Regulatory Milestone and Growth Plans

Securing the SEC license marks a major achievement for Sycamore, reinforcing its commitment to investor protection and financial compliance. CEO Babatunde Akin-Moses emphasized the significance of this development.
“This milestone reflects our dedication to building robust compliance structures that safeguard investor interests. With Oluwagbenga’s leadership, we are well-positioned to offer high-performance investment solutions in Africa’s evolving market,” he said.

Co-founder and Chief Compliance Officer, Onyinye Okonji, also underscored the rigorous regulatory process behind the license approval.
“The SEC’s thorough assessment of our governance, risk management, and client protection frameworks validates our commitment to the highest standards of financial integrity,” she noted.

With this strategic appointment and regulatory backing, Sycamore is set to redefine asset management by integrating fintech-driven solutions with institutional-grade investment expertise.
