Global payment solutions provider dLocal has partnered with Airtel Mobile Money to enable seamless payments for Google Play users in Kenya. This integration offers Kenyan consumers a more accessible way to purchase apps, games, and digital content using their mobile money wallets.
Driving Digital Inclusion Through Mobile Payments
Kenya is one of the world’s leading mobile money markets, with over 31.5 million mobile money accounts, covering nearly 80% of the adult population. Airtel Mobile Money, a key player in this ecosystem, provides millions of users with cashless transactions, bill payments, and digital financial services.
By enabling Airtel Mobile Money as a payment option, dLocal is helping Google Play expand its reach, allowing more Kenyan users to access digital content without the need for credit or debit cards.
“We’re proud to support this integration, making digital transactions more inclusive for Kenyan users,” said John O’Brien, Chief Revenue Officer at dLocal. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to bridging the gap between global platforms and local payment methods.”
Enhancing Access to Digital Content
Kenya has over 42 million mobile money subscribers, with Airtel holding a growing market share of 3.7 million users. By offering Airtel Mobile Money as a payment method, dLocal is removing barriers to digital purchases and empowering consumers with convenient, secure, and localized payment options.
This collaboration marks another step towards financial and digital inclusion, ensuring that more users in emerging markets can fully participate in the digital economy.
