African Innovation Rising: Kwara State and Digital Africa Empower 200 Young Learners with AI Skills

In a bold move to deepen digital literacy and foster innovation among young learners, the Kwara State Government has partnered with Digital Africa to train 200 pupils in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies. The initiative underscores the state’s growing commitment to nurturing a new generation of technologically skilled citizens who can thrive in the digital economy.
The program, hosted at the Ilorin Innovation Hub, is part of ongoing efforts to integrate technology education into early learning across Nigeria. Through practical sessions and mentorship, participating students are introduced to AI concepts, robotics, and digital creativity — equipping them with problem-solving skills for the future world of work.
Speaking during the event, Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Digital Economy, Innovation and Technology, Hon. Olatunbosun Alashi, highlighted that the state remains focused on driving inclusive innovation and bridging the digital divide. He reaffirmed that the government’s collaboration with Digital Africa aligns with its long-term vision of positioning Kwara as a key player in Nigeria’s digital transformation landscape.
Digital Africa’s CEO, Dr. Evans Woherem, praised the Kwara State Government for its foresight, emphasizing that building digital capacity at an early stage is crucial to Africa’s competitiveness in the global tech space. He noted that AI education for children would not only ignite curiosity but also inspire local solutions to real-world challenges.
The Ilorin Innovation Hub, which continues to serve as a center for technology development, incubation, and research, has trained hundreds of youths and startups since its inception. With this latest partnership, the hub aims to expand its reach to more schools across the state, empowering students to innovate, create, and lead in the digital era.
This initiative marks another milestone in Kwara’s ongoing digital transformation journey, reaffirming its commitment to preparing young minds for the future of work and strengthening Africa’s position in the global knowledge economy.
