Paystack Fires Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Over Misconduct Allegations

Nigerian fintech giant Paystack has terminated the employment of its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following public allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a junior employee. The decision was confirmed by Olubi in a blog post published on Saturday, November 23, 2025, where he revealed that his dismissal occurred before Paystack concluded its internal investigation.
The controversy began in mid-November after a viral social media post accused Olubi of abusive behavior. The situation escalated as users resurfaced explicit tweets from his past, dating as far back as 2009–2013, which contained sexually suggestive and allegedly predatory remarks. In response, Paystack announced his suspension and initiated a formal review process, promising to appoint an independent investigator to ensure fairness and transparency.
Olubi expressed concerns over the process, stating he was not granted a meeting or an opportunity to defend himself before being terminated. He claimed that the action appeared to violate both the terms of his suspension and the company’s internal policies. According to him, his legal team is currently evaluating the process and considering appropriate legal actions.
“My legal team is now reviewing the process that led to my purported termination, including its consistency with internal policies. They will take the steps they consider appropriate, and I will not be commenting further on this matter at this time,” he wrote.
The incident has intensified conversations around workplace accountability and corporate governance in Africa’s rapidly expanding tech ecosystem. It is the latest in a series of high-profile cases that have prompted calls for stronger ethics, clearer policies, and better enforcement mechanisms within tech companies.
Paystack, acquired by Stripe in 2020 in one of Africa’s most notable tech exits, has yet to issue a new public statement in response to Olubi’s claims. It also remains uncertain whether Stripe will comment further. Any legal proceedings could potentially reveal more details about the allegations, the investigation framework, and the termination process.
