Francophone African Super App Gozem Acquires Fintech Startup Moneex

Gozem, a Francophone African Super App that provides various on-demand transportation, delivery, and cashless payment solutions, has acquired Moneex, a Beninese fintech app that helps African freelancers and diasporans send and receive money from anywhere in the world.

The move is poised to enable Gozem to launch a mobile money service in Togo and Benin.

The value of the deal is undisclosed, but will see Moonex founders take an equity stake, Gozem’s Chief Executive Raphael Dana disclosed.

It will also see Moneex’s founders join Gozem’s team to build out a mobile wallet service that will enable Gozem to obtain a license to offer a financial service called ‘Gozem Money’ to customers in Togo and Benin.

Speaking on the acquisition of Moonex, Global Head of Product at Gozem Martial Kongo said,

“Expanding our financial services through the Gozem Money solution represents the next frontier in our ongoing commitment to delivering essential digital services to our users across Africa. With the addition of the Moneex Team to our ranks, we are poised to accelerate the introduction of our innovative fintech offerings to the market”.

Launched in 2018, Gozem is Africa’s Super App that is operational across Francophone West and Central Africa.

The startup journey began by addressing the relative dearth of efficiency and security with segments of the transportation sector, and it has since broadened its scope to offer various delivery services that bring convenience to users’ lives while augmenting drivers’ earnings.

Today, the company provides various on-demand transportation, delivery, and cashless payment solutions in one app to hundreds of thousands of users in the region.

It has 160,000 unique customers across countries including Cameroon and Gabon, according to Dana. The app offers motorcycle, tricycle, and car rides, positioning it as French-speaking West Africa’s answer to Uber.

Since its launch, the Francophone Africa super app has raised about $46.6 million, according to data from BD Funding Tracker and Pitchbook, this includes the International Financial Commission’s $10 million investment into Gozem’s vehicle project in Togo and Benin.

By acquiring Moneex, Gozem gains a strategic foothold in Benin, providing a foundation for its broader regional expansion. Benin serves as a pivotal entry point for Gozem to introduce MOM’s services to other Francophone countries in West and Central Africa.

This initiative aims to bring modern, accessible financial services to underserved communities in these regions, fostering greater financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
