Africa Credit Expo 2023: Africa’s First Credit Conference Holds With Resounding Success

Africa’s premier credit conference, the 2023 Africa Credit Expo, which was held on the 15th of November, at the Oriental Hotel Lagos, Nigeria, concluded with remarkable success.

As Nigeria’s pioneering and foremost credit bureau, CreditRegistry in its unwavering commitment to nurturing innovation, fostering collaboration, and driving progress within the credit ecosystem, organized the event to inspire and unite consumers, leaders, insurance, capital markets, fintech, and regulatory spheres across Africa to tackle the challenges associated with credit culture in Africa.

The event brought together private sector experts, and public sector decision-makers within the dynamic African Finance and Fintech space. It also had in attendance individuals and businesses across Nigeria and Africa, offering them the opportunity to connect with investors, policymakers, and lenders, amongst others.

Dr. Tunde Lemo, chairman of Titan Bank and Flutterwave gave the welcome address at the event. This was followed closely with a founder’s address from the founder of Credit Registry, Mr. Taiwo Ayedun who spoke on the topic; “Turning Nigeria’s Dead Capital Into Great Wealth”.

Mr. Ayedun during his speech emphasized on the untapped potential within Nigeria’s unregistered assets, which he described as “dead capital”.

He gave a breakdown of the consequences of having so many unregistered properties in Nigeria which include; restricted access to credit, reduced transactional capabilities, diminished investment opportunities, and inhibited economic growth due to the absence of property tax revenues.

Ayedun concluded by giving three strategic plans for reviving dead capital in Nigeria, which include, simplified registration of assets, creation of Mortgage liquidity, and Promotion of Title insurance. He also emphasized on the key role that government policies play in harnessing the latent potential of dead capital.

The event also had other keynote speakers who gave resounding addresses at the expo. 

This includes Dr. Jameelah Sharrieff Ayedun (Managing Director/CEO, Credit Registry), KeyAnder Early(Financial Literacy Expert, How Money Works), Hon. Afie Braimoh (Special Adviser Africa Business Trade), Ogbo Awoke Ogbo (Business Owner/ Coach, Transformation Hacks), and Karan Bhalla (Chief Growth Officer, USA).

After each speaker had delivered their speeches, the event transitioned into a workshop session (Five Workshop sessions), where participants were taught by different facilitators on different insightful topics such as “How to invest money safely and wisely”, Marriage money and credit- How to avoid conflict”, “Good Debt vs Bad Debt: What you need to Know”, amongst others.

The event concluded by providing solutions and sharing the newest innovations to fintech services, lenders and businesses to help them grow, and also provided remarkable insights to participants on how to bridge their financial gap and explore a world of financial possibilities.
