Digital Jewels and Africa Fintech Network Collaborate to Address Regulatory Compliance in African Fintech
In a joint initiative to tackle the growing complexities of regulatory compliance within Africa’s fintech sector, Digital Jewels, in partnership with the Africa Fintech Network, hosted a webinar titled “Navigate and Comply with Regulations with Ease through International Standards and Industry Frameworks: Fostering a Culture of Transparency and Accountability.”
The event brought together key industry players and provided valuable insights into the challenges and solutions related to regulatory compliance in fintech. Featured speakers included Mitchell Elegbe, Group Managing Director/CEO of Interswitch Group, and Ali Hussein Kassim, Chairman of the Association of Fintechs in Kenya.
In her opening remarks, Adedoyin Odunfa, CEO of Digital Jewels, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with the Africa Fintech Network marks a significant step forward in addressing regulatory challenges. Tokunbo Taiwo, Group Executive Director and CTO of Digital Jewels, highlighted the fintech sector’s rapid growth drivers—such as financial inclusion initiatives, the shift from cash to digital transactions, and increased funding for innovation—while emphasizing the critical role of regulatory compliance in supporting sustainable growth.
During the fireside chat, Elegbe reflected on Interswitch’s journey, underscoring how adherence to strong corporate governance and compliance standards allowed the company to gain the trust of customers and regulators, eventually helping it grow into Africa’s first unicorn. He acknowledged Digital Jewels’ role in guiding Interswitch toward adopting global best practices, which significantly enhanced the company’s operational efficiency and security.
