Kazang Launches Kazang Pay in Zambia, Enabling Card Payments for Merchants

Kazang, the prepaid value-added services (VAS) and card acquiring business within JSE-listed fintech Lesaka Technologies, has introduced its Kazang Pay card acceptance solution to merchants in Zambia.

This new service allows merchants to accept VISA debit and credit cards, as well as mobile wallet payments, using the same Kazang terminal they currently use to sell prepaid products and services. Payments are settled into the merchant’s Kazang wallet on the same day, providing a seamless and efficient payment process.

With around 12,000 VAS terminals already in operation in Zambia, Kazang aims to enable the majority of them to accept card payments within the next six months. Benefits include low transaction fees, no monthly terminal rental fees for merchants meeting a modest monthly transaction threshold, and the potential for business growth through card acceptance.

Kazang, Zambia’s largest VAS point-of-sale terminal provider, continues to expand its offerings with the addition of card payment solutions. This move follows the success of Kazang Pay in South Africa, where 60,000 small and micro merchants use the service to accept card payments.

Leon de Wit, Managing Director at Kazang Zambia, highlighted the significant strides in financial inclusion within the country, citing the rapid growth of card usage. Kazang Pay allows merchants to increase sales, attract more customers, and reduce the risks associated with handling cash. Additionally, the digitalized payment system helps merchants track sales and manage cash flow, paving the way for better access to loans.

Ashley Naidoo, Director of Kazang Pay in South Africa, shared that Zambian merchants have already embraced the card acquiring service, with a positive impact on VAS sales and merchant retention. Kazang Pay offers a comprehensive one-stop solution for both merchants and consumers in Zambia.
