Johnson Asiamah Appointed as Ghana’s Next Central Bank Governor
Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, has appointed Johnson Asiamah as the next governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval from the Council of State.
Asiamah, a seasoned economist with over 23 years of experience at the central bank, is set to take office following the retirement of the current governor, Ernest Addison, in March.
Asiamah previously served as the second deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017, playing a key role in shaping monetary and exchange rate policies. The presidency has commended his dedication to maintaining financial stability and fostering economic growth.
With Ghana’s economy facing pressures, particularly in the cocoa and gold sectors, President Mahama has pledged to address public concerns and steer the nation towards recovery. Despite these challenges, the government remains confident in Asiamah’s ability to stabilize the country’s financial systems and implement policies that will drive economic progress.
