Cikü Mugambi Joins DOB Equity as Investment Director After Departure From Kobo360

2 min read

Cikü Mugambi has taken on a new role as Investment Director at DOB Equity, a Netherlands-based private equity firm specializing in East African investments. This transition comes months after she stepped down as CEO of Kobo360, a leading logistics startup.

Mugambi, who has been in her new position for about a month, brings extensive experience in investment and operations. DOB Equity expressed enthusiasm about her arrival, highlighting her 15-year track record of deploying capital into high-impact businesses across Africa.

This new role marks a return to investment for Mugambi, who previously worked in the sector before joining Kobo360. She initially came on board as Chief Operating Officer (COO) before being promoted to CEO in August 2023 following the departure of co-founder Obi Ozor.

Her exit from Kobo360 came during a period of financial strain and leadership shifts within the company. The startup, which had secured approximately $79 million in funding from investors such as Juven, IFC, Goldman Sachs, and TLcom Capital, struggled with operational disruptions and significant debt. With an estimated ₦10 billion in bank debt, Kobo360 is now under the leadership of its returning CEO, Obi Ozor, who is working to stabilize the company and secure fresh financing by Q2 2025. If successful, operations could resume, and former employees might be reinstated by 2026.

At DOB Equity, Mugambi will focus on identifying and supporting African entrepreneurs developing scalable solutions to critical challenges. Her expertise in investment strategy, portfolio management, and business growth is expected to strengthen the firm’s mission of fostering economic development through strategic investments.
