Rulesbase Raises US$2.1 Million to Scale Operations

2 min read

Rulesbase, a Nigerian artificial intelligence (AI) startup developing customer service back-office automation tools for financial services, has raised US$2.1 million in pre-seed funding to expand its operations and scale its technology across Africa and beyond.

Founded in 2024 by Gideon Ebose and Chidi Williams, Rulesbase has developed Coworker, an AI agent designed to automate and optimize customer service back-office processes for financial institutions. Coworker is the first AI agent built specifically for back-office operations in the financial services sector, helping firms streamline workflows, improve compliance, and enhance service delivery.

Financial service providers often spend significant time and resources managing customer support tickets, handling disputes, ensuring quality assurance, and maintaining regulatory compliance. Rulesbase’s AI solution automates these repetitive and compliance-heavy tasks, allowing organizations to focus more on strategic and customer-facing functions. The Coworker AI agent can analyze customer interactions, identify potential regulatory risks, and trigger follow-up actions across integrated platforms such as Zendesk, Jira, and Slack.

The US$2.1 million pre-seed round was led by Bowery Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, Commerce Ventures, Transpose Platform VC, and several angel investors. The funding will enable Rulesbase to further develop its AI technology, strengthen product capabilities, and expand its presence in key African and international financial markets.

Rulesbase’s innovation represents a growing trend in Africa’s fintech and AI ecosystem, where startups are leveraging artificial intelligence to solve critical operational inefficiencies in the financial industry. With increased investment and global attention, the company is well-positioned to redefine how financial institutions approach compliance, dispute resolution, and customer service automation.
